In 2008 The Skiff was run by Inuda and a handful of freelancers.
Now we're a home from home for community groups, small businesses, roaming workers, partnerships and one-man-bands alike.

Over 1000 people have visited the Skiff in the two years we’ve existed, possibly many many more, when we weren’t counting. Participants in the Coworking movement including The Werks in Hove, Citizen Space in San Francisco and Indyhall in Philadelphia have been our main inspirations.

Now we’re proud to say it’s a thriving community hub that’s been built around all the quirks and needs that freelancers have.

Things happen around the clock, with people working during the day, and workshops happening in the evenings and weekends - we even hosted a sleepover for BarCamp.

In 2009 we launched a membership scheme enabling the space to operate sustainably without being dependent on Inuda.

In 2010 our nice little place to work at 49 Cheltenham Place was fast approaching capacity. We spotted an opportunity to move to a new, bigger brighter space in the heart of Brighton's North Laine.

With a community mostly made up of people working in the new media industry, it made perfect sense for us to team up with WiredSussex so they took on a 50% share in The Skiff. We completed the move in July 2010.

Over 170 people now make up the The Skiff's coworking community.

The space is used professionally by individuals as well as organisations of all sizes that enjoy flexible access to a collection of workspaces and meeting rooms in such a central location.

We're also the home of over a dozen community groups who meet regularly throughout the month. The most established of these, BuildBrighton, recently graduated to take on their own space, dedicated to hardware hacking, perfect for people wishing to tinker with their electronic inventions.

While the space we have is universally loved by everyone that visits, it’s the community of members that we’re most proud of.

The people here make it really special. To experience this yourself we recommend you try working from the space for a day and attend some of our upcoming events.
